Meet Kara

Get to know me

Ever since I can remember, I have always been obsessed with every art form: music, dance, drawing, and modeling… all of which led me to photography.
From the moment I bought my first camera, I can’t tell you how amazing it felt to be behind the lens and capture everything from my unique perspective. I would spend countless hours practicing and watching videos, soaking it all in, and I loved every single second of it. This is when I knew that this was what I was meant to pursue, and where I belonged. Since then, my love for lighting, colors, composition, and capturing the beauty in each individual has grown and evolved into something I know I will always be proud of. I never thought I’d find that I could do something with my passion, but working for SB has kept me exactly where I am meant to be, behind the camera!

Modeling is also one of my favorite pastimes – it’s allowed me to feel so comfortable in front of the camera and my goal is for you to enjoy that level of comfort as well. I draw on my experiences to ensure I’m so perfectionistic when it comes to posing. I am careful that every pose is flattering and I demonstrate them often for my subjects so they know exactly what to do! I love how SB really captured this side of me in my boudoir “In Action” video. If you could choose only one place to go on vacation for the rest of your life, where would it be and why?
I would have to say Hawaii! I lived there for a few months and woke up to the most incredible scenery every day.

If you could pick up a certain skill instantly, what would it be?
It would have to be ballet!

If you could instantly be an expert in a subject, what would it be?
History. Learning about the past interests me and I think we can gain so much insight from it but my teachers would not be impressed with my knowledge of it at this point, lol.

What are you currently reading?
A Thousand Splendid Suns – I chose this because one of my favorite books (Kite Runner) was written by the same author.

What is something you can do better than anyone else you know?
I think maybe I would win if there was such thing as a patience contest. I used to nanny (I LOVE kids by the way :)) so yeah, patience was key most days!

Which season fits your personality best—spring, summer, fall, or winter—and why?
I think I would have to say spring, because I am a very happy and positive person! For me, spring (especially after some of our brutal Wisco winters!) seems to bring out the positivity in others, which I also try to do!

Do you collect anything?
Clothes, photos, fuzzy blankets, photography gear… just to name a few!!

What’s a skill you learned when you were young that you still use today?
Ever since I was little I have felt very sensitive to people’s energies and have been able to use this to read other people’s emotions. Today, this helps me evaluate how to handle certain stressful situations and exactly how to read those around me!

What’s the most valuable piece of career advice you’ve been given?
The most important voice to listen to is your own.

If you could eliminate one thing from your daily routine what would it be?
Doing dishes – I’ve found that the excuse of “I’m letting the dishes soak” is not a favorite for others that hear it, ha.

Are you more of a listener or a talker?
I’m totally more of a listener than a talker

Both Adam and Kara will hold a special place in our hearts forever, as they were such a huge part of making the day perfect.
